The Virgoan child is very much a credit to his or her parents, and receives good reports from school, and at parent-teacher meetings parents will glow with pride when they are complimented about the child’s excellent manners.
Even while still very small, the outstanding characteristics of the type are evident in little Virgoans. These children manage to remain clean when others around them look very begrimed, and they certainly care for their clothes. Do not make the mistake of buying a garment on the off chance that your son or daughter will approve of your choice – they want to do the choosing themselves. When the time comes to pass on the things they have grown out of, these will be in very good condition. Virgoans cherish their toys – there is nothing destructive in the Virgoan nature, even if the little Virgoan is a critical as the older generation born under this sign. This is why it pays to take notice of what young Virgoans have to say when they choose to comment on what you are wearing or what you are doing: they have old heads on young shoulders and their advice will be very shrewd.
You can always make Virgo children happy by giving them books to read and instructional toys, and they like to make things. If your little Virgo daughter expresses a desire to learn carpentry, do not fob her off with the comment that it is a more suitable hobby for boys. Later on, you are going to be grateful for her ability to turn out some very fine cabinet-work.
Though shy, Virgoan children are gregarious and therefore make an effort to get on friendly terms with schoolmates. Other children tease them for being ‘goody-goodies’ and ‘teacher’s pets’ but, all the same they turn to the Virgoans for advice, and behave all the better when in their company. Virgoans are not clingy children and are able to adapt themselves to the change of environment far more easily than might be supposed.
At school they may reach the status of prefect; they never abuse this, for there is nothing of the bully in the Virgo child or adolescent.
They love to collect things, especially stamps, coins and whatever else has an educational (to say nothing of financial) value. They are more likely to spend their pocket money on items of lasting value than on sweets or other ephemeral pleasures.
Virgoan children undergo traumas when examination times draw near. Their anxiety is at peak then but, despite their nervous tension when the ordeal has to be faced, they come through very credibly, as their retentive memory comes to their aid.
Young Virgoans are very fidgety, but you never have to find and answer to a plaintive plea of ‘What can I do next?” for your Virgo child always finds plenty to do.
Take pains to foster the child’s self-confidence. Never much in evidence, it collapses all too easily when this child is outshone by other youngsters. At such times the best course is to point out that while another may be very clever in some ways, your little Virgoan has the advantage over them in other directions.
Encourage your Virgoan child to be more emotionally demonstrative by making it clear that it is never embarrassing to show affection in other ways than by merely doing one’s best to be useful. Let Virgoan children keep pets; you need never fear that they will be careless in looking after them. Do not be surprised, however, if they show a greater fondness for dogs, rabbits and mice than for cats. A lot of Virgo children have a cat phobia.
One important piece of advice: see to it that your young Virgoan does not become the prey of other children’s bossy, selfish attitudes; these children can be too easily imposed upon because they are so ready to be obliging.
