Sex during pregnancy - are you kidding?

parentsWith all the new experiences that are thrusted at us (mind the pun) as we verge onto becoming a parent, abstinence was mine. The first time that I ever practiced abstinence in my adult life, was during pregnancy. Call me shallow and selfish but the thought of sex during pregnancy made me squeamish. All the pictures in the pregnancy books that showed comfortable positions for sex while preggers were just too comical. However, some women, finally free from worries about conception and contraception, feel sexier than ever.

I thought that life would be as per normal in the first trimester considering my body shape was still fairly normal but I was just too tired and a little bit nauseated to make love. The second trimester was supposed to show a marked resurgence in my libido. That just never happened. I simply felt too unattractive with my popped belly to really want to even try to get in the mood. Forget about the third trimester. I was too huge to even contemplate the thought of any intimacy. I was so big. I am only 5 foot 3 inches in height and people told me I didn't even look pregnant from behind but when I turned around - woah! My stomach was massive. So the thought of sex at that stage can be defined in one word - Ew!

So lets talk about sex in the fourth trimester. We all know of someone who has fallen pregnant a little too quickly. I was told of one lady who fell pregnant when her baby was only 6 weeks old. "That's terrible!" I said.
"Yeh, imagine having to look after a baby and be sick with pregnancy" said my friend.
"No. I mean, I can't believe they actually had sex that soon after giving birth! She must have had a caesarian!" Horrifying images of my own episiotomy flashed before my eyes.

Well maybe we should all think about the c-section option a little more. In Brazil, women overwhelmingly favour c-sections because they fear that giving birth to a child vaginally won't leave them intact sexually AND they won't be able to please their partners. If the information in this article is the single cause of the mass evacuation of the entire NZ male population to Brazil, I take no responsibility.

This information reinforces what you already knew. The choice of whether you have sex with your partner or whether there is no sex to be had, always will be up to you.
