It should be a fairly painless business rearing your young Taurean; for right from infancy you will discover that, providing your child is subjected to a regular routine, he or she will be good-tempered, and very responsive to affectionate attention. But any disturbance of routine badly upsets this type of child.
Once at the crawling and toddling stages, there is no reason for you to fell (as so many hard-pressed mothers feel) that you need eyes in the back of your head to keep track of what the Taurean infant is up to. So long as you give this child some bricks to play with he or she will remain contentedly occupied with them; this is the constructive instinct showing itself at a very early stage. And, you will notice that the little Taurean, even while a very young baby, seems to appreciate the sound of music, especially the more soothing kind. Once he or she has learned to speak, it will not be long before you find this child crooning away and soon the name of every tune heard on the radio will be stored up in the Taurean memory.
On the other hand, do not be surprised if your little Taurean seems to be a slow developer in other respects. It takes Taureans that much longer to get a firm grasp of anything they try to learn. Similarly, though you will go through the teething period with this child without being subjected to pandeomonium in the household, with everyone else’s nerves frayed by excessive childish wails of distress, you may become rather anxious because your Taurus baby shows no inclination to stand upright at the usual age for this to happen. Taureans like to feel very sure of their footing, which is why they feel nervous when walking on soft surfaces. And just try getting them into a boat! They will choose any other form of transport (even air travel, to which they are certainly not addicted) rather than trust themselves to be carried anywhere by water. In fact, they will not venture onto a pier if they can avoid doing so!
Taureans can be led, but never driven, so it is no use trying to force a Taurus child to do what goes against the grain; but with a little guile you can always overcome Taurean obstinacy. The trick is to appeal to the child’s good nature and good sense. If you adopt a sympathetic attitude to his objections, a little flattery, blended with a request rather than a command, the Taurean child can be persuaded to change his mind.
This type of child is inclined to become too possessive – of his or her toys, of your affection, and of the attention of playmates. Jealousy as well as acquisitiveness are basic traits in the Taurean personality, and the child needs to be helped to bring both under control. So encourage him or her to share with others what they most value.
Once at school, your Taurean child will make steady if not spectacular headway after settling into the routine and discipline there. Out of school, see to it that Taureans cultivate hobbies as they tend to lapse into idleness when at a loose end.
